Laurel had a Sunday School lesson yesterday on "Choosing the Right" and also on telling the truth. At least, that's what she reported in the car on way home from church. Apparently sleep does a number on a 6-year-old's memory. Laurel has been asking if she can take her new Barbie laptop to school. "No." What about on the bus? "No, but you can take it in the car on the way to the bus stop." Laurel got ready for school very quickly this morning and sat waiting in the car for her mom. This should have been the first clue that something was amiss. She smiled all the way to the bus, but didn't bother to play with the laptop. Mom dropped her off and she boarded the bus. On the short drive back to the house, Mom had a wondering feeling and glanced in the backseat for the laptop which was not there. Hmmmm. She turned around and got back to the bus before it had departed (Laurel has the first stop in the morning.) Mom signaled to Laurel to come to the door and bring her backpack. Before opening the bag, she asked, "Laurel, did you put your laptop in here?" "No." Mom opens the backpack and what do you think was inside? The pink and white rectangular toy. Lucky for Laurel, Mom said they'd talk about it later. That could be unlucky, though, because Mom has all day to think about how to handle it. So the mother-daughter relationship is in full swing :).
